The Best Adventure · Adventure Grant

William Finch

William Finch

Raised in the foothills of Fayetteville, Arkansas, I spent my childhood exploring the outdoors before trading the Ozarks for a twelve-year career in the U.S. Army. After serving two tours in Iraq, I returned home facing a new kind of battle: finding stillness after years of service. Today, I use my motorcycle to seek out the quiet corners of the world, using music and photography as the primary engines of my healing journey. For me, the lens is a way to find peace within the chaos. Through this grant, I aim to use my perspective to tell stories that inspire others, proving that even the most difficult paths can lead to a beautiful destination.

Why this project deserves support and who it benefits

This project deserves support because it speaks to a universal human challenge: the search for peace within a world that often feels chaotic. While my personal perspective was shaped by twelve years of service and two overseas tours, the emotions I’ve navigated—isolation, the weight of a heavy environment, and the search for a new path—are experiences that belong to everyone. My photography is a mission to show that no matter where you have been or what "chaos" you have stood in, positive change is a choice we can make every day.

Who it benefits:

  • The Seekers: Anyone navigating their own transition or healing journey. My work serves as visual evidence that beauty can be reclaimed, and that our past environments do not have to dictate our future peace.
  • The Global Community: By documenting the transition from internal noise to external stillness, I aim to connect people through shared emotion rather than just shared geography.
  • The Adventurous Soul: It benefits those who believe that movement—whether by motorcycle, through music, or through a lens—is a powerful catalyst for personal evolution.

The Story: What this grant makes possible and why it matters

I was raised in the hills of Fayetteville, but my life has taken me through some of the most challenging environments a person can experience. Over time, I realized that while everyone’s "worst environment" looks different, the feeling of needing to find a way out is the same. I turned to photography, music, and the open road as my means of navigating back to myself. I don’t just want to take pictures; I want to be a catalyst for the idea that we can all find our "peace in the chaos."

What this grant makes possible: This grant provides the bridge from a personal journey to a global mission of influence. It allows me to:

  1. Prove the Message Globally: To take my camera and motorcycle beyond the Ozarks and capture the same "peace" in diverse, rugged, and challenging landscapes around the world.
  2. Professionalize the Impact: Invest in the high-caliber equipment necessary to create imagery that resonates on a deep, visceral level—images that don't just show a place, but evoke a feeling of hope and resilience.
  3. Influence Through Action: Transition from a solo traveler to a global storyteller, using my own evolution to inspire others to step out of their shadows and into their own adventures.

Why it matters: It matters because we live in a world that often feels like it's spinning out of control. My work is a reminder to slow down, to look closer, and to recognize that beauty is often waiting for us just past the point where we feel like giving up. By supporting this project, you are investing in a vision that celebrates the human spirit’s ability to find light in any environment. I am living proof that change is possible, and I want my photography to be the spark that helps others believe it, too.
