Connie Springer

I am a long-time photographer, having started my career in a summer experience in Israel working on a kibbutz and loving the photogenic beauty around me. I attended photography school in Boston (Art Institute of Boston) after getting my bachelor's degree in sociology at Simmons College. I have worked as a freelancer for many years, also doing projects where I organized company photo collections. I created work interviewing active nonagenarians. Now I would like to explore the next decade - spirited centenarians.

3 generations of varying ethnicities

Several years ago I produced an exhibit and book chronicling the stories of active people in their 90s called POSITIVELY NINETY. I wanted a different picture of aging than the depressing warehousing of older people.

I would like to extend this project by interviewing and photographing centenarians who are spirited and living life fully.

I love capturing the stories of people who have a zest for living and can bounce back from adversities. Photographing older people makes me appreciate the character and fortitude in their faces.

The award would give me a head start to embark on this adventure.
