Jennifer Nicole Ogden

I was born and raised in East Texas, where my roots continue to shape who I am today. I am a mother, and that role is at the center of my life, grounding me in purpose and gratitude. I value the time I spend with the people I love and the simple, everyday moments we share. I am drawn to creative expression through reading, writing, and photography. Photography, in particular, became a natural extension of how I experience the world. I am moved to capture moments not just for how they look, but for how they feel, whether it is the stillness of a sunset, a fleeting moment with my son, or a scene that echoes the memory of someone I have loved and lost. These images help me hold onto meaning and stay connected to both the present and the past. Music is another constant in my life. I often think about the soundtrack of my experiences and how deeply sound and memory intertwine. Like photography, it helps me process, reflect, and remain grounded. I am grateful for the life I have and the work I do, and I approach both with intention and appreciation. At my core, I am someone who seeks to find beauty, connection, and meaning in the world and to preserve it in whatever ways I can.

In Her Hands

In Her Hands

My grandmother was a touchstone in my life and at the end of hers I often held her hand so she knew she was never alone. I miss her.

My Sweet Love

My Sweet Love

I had taken my son on a day outing and at the end of the day we went for ice cream. I looked over at him and felt the fullness of his love and joy and tried to capture that. I hope I did.

Mine Own Sunset

Mine Own Sunset

I get to work early in the mornings and one of the benefits of that is the sunrises. This scene changes every day, different colors and brightness but I am always so thankful for them.

Photography, for me, is not about capturing perfect images. It is about preserving the feeling of a moment. I am most drawn to the quiet, and often overlooked scenes in my everyday life. The expressions, the light, and the in-between moments that might seem small to others but hold lasting emotional weight within me.
Outside of my full-time work and time spent with my son, photography is how I slow down and connect more deeply with the world around me. I tend to keep things and thoughts I have close to the vest so photography is way in which I can share a bit about my inner world.  It allows me to capture not just what I see, but what I feel. I try to create pictures that serve as emotional memory markers for myself but to maybe also bring about some emotion in others.
This grant would allow me to repair a camera I discovered at an estate sale. It is an object that already carries history and meaning. Restoring it would not only give new life to the camera, but also would allow me to capture these moments in time with a camera that has already had such a life. I think it would be amazing to add my little slice of life to its history.
Receiving this grant would support both my creative growth and my commitment to capturing authentic, emotionally resonant images. In my photos I strive for sincerity, and I am dedicated to continuing to develop a body of photography that values feeling over perfection.
