SAVANNAH CUMMINS

SAVANNAH CUMMINS

My name is savannah, am 42 years old, I found my passion when I meant my first parrot Simson in 2020 a Blue and Gold macaw. She bonded with me within hours, She would not leave my side and only wanted me the first night I meant her. She gave me something I never truly felt before and in returned I gave her the same. I gave her the love she was looking for in a companion, she was abused and horribly neglected, her feathers and body showed the story of her pasted. That night she gave home, Simon and I have been glued at the hips. I started taking classes, reading books, volunteering, watching videos, therapy classes on parrots and so much more just to give her the life she deserved. She was teaching me and I was teaching her the word Love! I started to see more and more birds just like Simon in our area. Knowing how she felt that day we got her, and how much she needed a place to call HOME, I opened my hearts and my home to new birds just like her. I found out how much these feathered babies needed me and how much happiness they gave not just to me but to my family in return. We sat down at the table and decided that this was our calling. This is what we wanted to do as a family, to build a sanctuary. I came from an abused home, a mother who didnt want me. A mother who used drugs and was homeless 70% of my childhood life. I to know what he means to be bounced around and passed along in life, watching these parrots get that same treatment just breaks my heart. Humans can be so cruel not just to one another but to animals. The difference between humans and animals, humans can talk. I am the voice for them, I am the one who can make a difference in their lives. This is why I opened my heart and home to them!

Here at Feathers of A Flock, we take great pride in making sure that our Bird residents are Happy, Healthy and having a position loving environment! We aim to offer care, rehabilitation, and ultimately give them a permanent stable home. Our passion and drive wanted us to build a Sanctuary within our home, with each new bird that found their way to us, they found that their new environment had everything they needed. They found love, compassion, understanding, and patience but most of all, they found HOME! We give Free Community classes on Bird care 101, Help with lost birds, help plan for the future or unseen events for owners, To provide ongoing information and education in proper avian care and behavior to current and potential exotic bird owners, provide owners the necessary training and skills to keep their companion bird in their home, Give hands on experience to those who wish to work in the Avian medical field and so much more for free. Here we don't believe in wing clipping, breeding or selling. We believe these remarkable, feathered babies deserve a place where they can be free from all the bad and have a place where they can be themselves, no matter what that maybe.  We take pride in making sure these feather babies get a healthy diet, vet check, nail grooming aka spa day, showers 3 times a week, Outdoor Aviary time, Flight training but mostly they get to be loved on and shown that they matter.

We work hard to turning unloved, aggressive birds into loved appreciated family members again. We are the first and only Bird Sanctuary in Cowlitz County.
I would love to be awarded the grants cause we don't get very many donates, that's ok. We don't except people to give donates when they come get free classes with us or when I travel to help them with bird issues. I do this cause we have so many displayed parrots in our world, if I can help people to understand what it really takes to have a feathered baby and make sure its a right fit for them or to help them and there bird to be able to stay together I would do it 1000 times a day. All rescue no matter what kind it may be are important, I just found my calling in parrots.  there seed and pellet diet is 1300 a month, that's not counting fresh chop- Veggies, fruits and etc. People dont understand that parrots live so long, macaws can live 80 to 100 years old, they will out live us, its our job to make sure they have a future when we are gone.
